The French National Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment (INRAE) organised the workshop “Machine Learning”, which took place from 8th – 9th of April in Arcachon (France). This was the third workshop organised as part of the GLOMICAVE’s national workshops.
The workshop, held in-person, explored fundamental theoretical principles of machine learning and provided a theoretical and practical grounding on the matter. The programme included a handful of workshops on machine learning, as well as a quiz and other activities.
In particular, the first day of the workshop started with an introduction to Artificial Intelligence in the life sciences, followed by a quiz to assess participants’ knowledge prior to the machine learning workshop, and concluded with a demystification of machine learning and its relevance in many fields.
The second day focused on the theoretical foundations of machine learning, with a presentation of different algorithms and prediction flows. Moreover, a workshop was held on the construction of predictive models using R, with the aim to gain practical experience of using the R programming language to build predictive models.
