The University of Minho (UMinho) is a Public Foundation under the legal Regime of Higher Education Institutes. UMinho’s mission is to create, spread and put knowledge into application, with free thinking and pluralism as its core values. The fulfillment of the mission is undertaken in an international reference framework, where scientific research plays a leading role in close articulation with teaching.
The Centre of Biological Engineering (CEB) is a research centre located at UMinho which combines fundamental science with Engineering Sciences to obtain value-added products or processes in the Food, Chemical, Biotech, and Environmental Industries. CEB is a unit aiming to be a strategic infrastructure for the development of R&D and innovation policies in the areas of Biotechnology and Bioengineering, Biomaterials, Biomedical and Life Sciences, Environmental and Agricultural Sciences. The Bioresources, bioremediation, biorefinery group at CEB (BRIDGE group) is one of the main players of the Portuguese R&D on Environmental Biotechnology with the mission to underpin the transition from a linear to a circular economy by generating, applying and disseminating knowledge and transfer technology in the field of Environmental Biotechnology.
Contribution to GLOMICAVE
During last years applied and fundamental research has been performed in CEB-UMinho in the field of environmental biotechnology and anaerobic wastewater treatment, by using a combination of lab-scale/full-scale bioreactors operation, application of microbial culturing and microbial communities profiling techniques, as well as multi-omics approaches to link microbial identity to function in anaerobic microbiomes. CEB-UMinho will participate in the project by linking genotype to phenotype in microbial communities involved in anaerobic digestion.
