On December 2023, Ana Carolina Matos Inácio and Rodrigo Pereira Ribeiro, Master students in bioinformatics at the Department of Informatics at University of Minho, presented their master’s Dissertations including part of GLOMICAVE research.
The work “Comparative analysis of microbial communities from full scale anaerobic digesters”, produced by Ana Carolina Matos Inácio, presented a comprehensive comparative analysis of the microbial communities inhabiting large-scale anaerobic digesters within wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs).
On the other hand, Rodrigo Martinho Pereira Ribeiro presented its work entitled “Bioenergy production from waste: metagenomics and metatranscriptomics analyses of full scale anaerobic digesters”.
This dissertation gave insights on the function of key microbes inside anaerobic digesters, by analysing gene expression by an integrated metagenomics and metatranscriptomics approach.
It highlights the importance of fostering a vibrant research community dedicated to advancing anaerobic digestion, waste treatment, and renewable energy generation.
GLOMICAVE partners Maria Alcina Pereira and Andreia Salvador, from the University of Minho, supervised both master’s dissertations.
Within GLOMICAVE, the University of Minho is responsible for linking genotype to phenotype in microbial communities involved in anaerobic digestion. You can learn more about their contribution to the project in this interview:
